DECORATIVE ADDITIVES

What each additive does

• Straw (13 g) — visible pale fibres in the plaster layer; a warm, rustic, handmade look.
• Mineral mica (75 g) — a subtle shimmer that comes alive as the light falls across it. Particularly lovely in evening light.
• Gravel 0.4–2.5 mm — a fine, even texture; good for larger areas and ceilings.
• Gravel 1–5 mm — a bold, coarse texture for a feature wall.

How to use them

The additive is stirred into the prepared decorative clay plaster just before you start, and mixed through evenly. The amount is up to the effect you want: less gives a subtle result, more a pronounced one. We recommend testing on a small board first, to see how it will really look.

Where they work

Feature walls, alcoves, fireplace surrounds — anywhere the surface should be texture as well as colour. The result is a stylish, cosy finish that adds real value to an interior. We demonstrate the techniques at our wall decoration workshops, and if you would rather not do the work yourself, we recommend the best craftspeople.
